Mario Bazan, an immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico, arrived in the Napa Valley in 1973. Charmed by its beauty, he settled and began his life’s work in the vineyards. Mario’s experience and dedication to excellence have coaxed him to capture the essence of grape growing in a bottle. Mario Bazan Cellars, a boutique and family run winery, has been operating since 2005.
The 2007 Mario Bazan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is an orchestral mélange of color, aromas, and flavors. Premium fruit harvested in late October was used to accomplish this preeminent wine. The brilliant dark ruby tint is seductively inviting. Heightened aromas of hazelnut, tobacco, blackberry, and espresso bean are apparent. Following them are aromatic scents of dried cherry, black licorice, and cranberry with a supporting case of sandalwood, vanilla and chocolate. The entry is smooth, round, and creamy with an underlying acidity which keeps the wine focused. Delicious flavors of blackberry, cherry, cassis, and black olive reflect the aromas of the wine. A velvety texture creates an elegant interface between the rich core and discrete structure. The wine finishes with a graceful touch of black licorice and black fruit. Rewarding now, this 2007 vintage will age gracefully for 10-15 years.
93 Points. Wine Enthusiast Magazine, Steve Heimoff. November 2010. “A terrific Cabernet that feels lush and important in the mouth. Just shows that classic Napa Valley elegance of tannins, with well-ripened fruity flavors of blackberries, currants and cedar”
