Tim and Lisa Walker formed Rheo Cellars after long careers in grinding professions. They shared a desire to produce something truly special, that could be enjoyed by others. World class wine in very limited production, that exceeds people's expectations and makes them happy.

From day one, we never thought of ourselves as a startup winery. More of an upstart winery. With two simple goals - to make wines that compete with the most elite cult wines in the Napa Valley. And to have fun.

We wanted a young winemaker who could share our vision, with a passion, who could execute the strategy of crafting world class wines in small lots. We found Jason Moore, who embraced our mission and came on board. With Jason, we had the pieces in place to execute the strategy and achieve our goals.

Rheo sources grapes from the world famous Beckstoffer and Galleron vineyards in Rutherford. This special fruit is melded by Jason into an entity that is distinct, profound, extraordinary.

Uncompromising quality and distinctive characteristics in every bottle. You can literally taste the passion of the winemaker.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This wine is a special project for RHEO CELLARS. It exudes rich and ripe aromas of bramble, raspberry, lavender and black cherry, with a hint of bittersweet chocolate. It has a soft texture. On the palate you’ll sense the black cherry, along with ripe flavors of sweet plum and vanilla. The very evident fine grained tannins provide a framework for the luscious fruit intensity and lingering minerality in the finish. – Winemaker, Jason Moore
Winemaker Notes
The 2009 season began dry, but rains did come in spring. June heat kept the vines in check. Summer temperatures remained on the cool side with plenty of morning fog, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly. Heat spikes in late August pushed the berries to perfect ripeness while maintaining superb acidity. The fruit was sorted, de-stemmed and cold-soaked, undergoing native yeast fermentations and macerations and then aged in 100% new French oak barrels. The vineyard regularly produces high 90+ point wines. This wine exhibits amazing focus and poise. With nearly a year in the bottle, it has just now opened up. This is a wine built to age gracefully for more than 15 years.
