Banjo Wine Co. 2017 Rose of Syrah

Most rosés are made from saignée or bleed, meaning the focus was red wine and the fruit was picked later to allow for tannin development. This Syrah was picked only for rosé and went directly to the press, meaning Brix was lower and acid was higher, creating more fresh flavors than baked flavors. Also because of the skin contact in the press, nitrogen and other nutrients were extracted from the skins to create a helathy fermentation. No hints of sulfides or off flavors from nutrient deficiency in fermentation. The result is a clean and fruit forward wine with complexity and texture.

• 2017 Banjo Wine Co. Rosé of Syrah - Cotton candy, strawberry jam, and purple jolly rancher on the nose. Floral and spice box notes on entry, red candy on the mouth and nice weight in the mid-palate. Meatiness typical of Syrah complements the red fruit. Finish of white pepper and candied apple.

-  Minimal intervention winemaking, goal was to create a rosé in more of a Bandol style than Provence. Microclimate in vineyard is southern facing and filled with sun, with coastal breezes and cool nights that are similar to Southern France. Food friendly wine but also prefect for warm day drinking.
